Left Australia? Claim Your Super + Tax Return
Bilal Jivraj explains how former temporary visa holders can claim Australian super and lodge a tax return after leaving Australia.
Video summary
Former temporary residents should consider their Australian super and tax position separately. DASP eligibility generally requires departure from Australia and an expired or cancelled temporary visa. A final tax return may produce a refund or an amount payable depending on your income, residency and withholding. ALITAX offers a free initial Tax & Super Check before you decide whether to engage the practice.

Video summary
The initial Tax & Super Check reviews your tax position, superannuation and potential amounts held for you. Estimated entitlements, applicable fees and proposed next steps are explained before you approve any lodgement. A free check is not a promise of a refund and does not authorise an application by itself.
PALM Workers Leaving Australia: Claim Your Super + Tax Return
Watch this videoPALM workers leaving Australia may be eligible for a DASP super payment and may need an Australian tax return, depending on their circumstances.
Video summary
PALM workers should check superannuation and tax separately when leaving Australia. DASP eligibility depends on immigration and departure conditions, while tax residency and the need to lodge a tax return depend on individual facts. Ask for an individual assessment rather than assuming all short contracts receive the same tax treatment.

Watch this videoUnderstand the DASP process for former temporary residents, the difference between super and tax refunds, and ALITAX's free initial check.
Video summary
DASP is a payment of eligible super after leaving Australia, not a tax-return refund. You can review the ATO's DASP application guidance or ask ALITAX for assistance with super and your Australian tax position. ALITAX provides a written quote before you decide. Any fee deducted from a refund comes from the tax refund only, never from super; an uncovered balance may be payable upfront.

DASP and tax-return questions
Can I claim Australian super after leaving Australia?
Eligible former temporary residents can apply for DASP after leaving Australia and their temporary visa has expired or been cancelled. Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens and Australian permanent residents are generally not eligible for DASP. Check the ATO's eligibility rules for your circumstances.
Is a DASP payment the same as a tax refund?
No. DASP pays eligible superannuation and has its own withholding rules. A tax return reconciles Australian income, deductions and tax withheld. A tax refund is not guaranteed, and the two processes should be considered separately.
How much tax is withheld from a DASP payment?
The tax-free component has no DASP withholding. For ordinary eligible temporary residents, taxable taxed and untaxed elements are generally withheld at 35% and 45% respectively. Where the working holiday maker DASP rate applies, the taxable component is generally withheld at 65%. The ATO and your super fund determine the applicable treatment.
Can PALM workers use the ALITAX Tax & Super Check?
Yes. ALITAX can review a PALM worker's superannuation and Australian tax position. DASP eligibility, tax residency and any return requirements depend on the worker's individual circumstances; the check does not guarantee a refund.
Is the initial Tax & Super Check free?
The initial ALITAX Tax & Super Check is free and does not itself authorise lodgement. You receive the proposed fees and next steps before deciding. Any fee-from-refund arrangement uses the tax refund only, never super, and any uncovered balance may be payable upfront.
